Today I discovered this Charter for Compassion by accident. Having read what this project is about, I definitely encourage you to learn more about it yourself and, hopefully, to give your support.
In a nutshell, this project originated with the work of Karen Armstrong, an author whom I really respect and admire. She was formerly a Catholic nun, and has written some amazing and informative books on religion, always in a compassionate way, with the aim to promote better understanding and communication about religion and spiritual traditions.
This Charter calls on all of us to bring back the compassionate side of religion and political life. Promoting compassionate thinking and behavior in the world is of great importance, and seems often to be lacking in many expressions of religious and political life in modern times. I really think that it is the responsibility of each of us to make compassion and understanding the focus of our activities and thinking, especially those of us who really care about issues of religion, spirituality, ethics and responsible political activity. I think that compassion is part of our natural human birthright and we should claim it!
Anyway, I encourage you to read more about the Charter for Compassion for yourself and to form your own opinion. Happy reading!
