So, here are a million photos from the weekend. I realized that I’ve never really taken many photos in Beşiktaş, which is the area we live in. I’m making up for that now.
Some highlights are: the covered fish market, a little hidden away Orthodox church right next to the fish market, a lovely mosque in a square near the Bosphorus. I think the grave stones in Ottoman (in Turkish, Osmanlı) cemeteries are carved in the shape of the different head gear people of rank wore. Some had turbans or tall hats or whatever, in various shapes and sizes, and your grave stone would be in the appropriate shape to show your rank. They are quite impressive and beautiful, usually decorated with Ottoman script as well. So, anyway, hopefully these give a little more of an idea of the area where we live.
